A letter to my future self. She'll appreciate nostalgia more than experience.

It is not up to others to see or understand your treasures within. It is your individual responsibility to explore, harness and perpetuate those treasures - and your ability to do so will become an invaluable gift. Don't stifle the thoughts that come from your gifts just because they scare you. The aptitude for greatness requires courage. Who are you to not believe in yourself, your heart, and your treasures? Know that listening to your heart -- and listening without expectation -- to that unguarded voice that speaks when you need it most, will never mislead or betray you. In your darkest times, in moments of great sadness and emptiness, your heart has always spoken the same words - "you'll be okay; you'll always be okay." Believe in this.
Believe that love will never keep you from becoming who you are meant to be. If he does, it is not love. Have patience and courage, and believe that your heart leads you on the right path no matter what. It will take you to and through suffering, as a way to show you when you have strayed from listening. You can never love someone as much as you miss them. And, your memories are always sweeter than the experience itself. There's so much you cannot know on the other side of experience. Like finding yourself underwhelmed amidst the city streets of Munich, but consequently enthralled with the lessons you took home. Or expecting to be romanced by the city of Paris, only to realize you left your heart in London. Release yourself from expectation. It will leave your heart open to lead the way.
I write this as a traveler, but I will not speak of destinations. No matter the cities you travel to, you'll find the only journey is within.
